How To Achieve The "No Make-up Look" This Summer

With Summer just around the corner and the warm weather setting in, people will start spending more time outside and participating in outdoor activities.

Wearing a full face of makeup can be quite uncomfortable in the heat, right?

So, a “no make-up” make-up look is more practical to put on in your student accommodation.

Plus the no make-up look promotes self confidence by showing that make-up should be used to enhance and not conceal your features.

It encourages people to be comfortable in their own skin by reminding them they are naturally beautiful and don’t need to rely on make-up.

If you are wondering how you can achieve the no make-up look this summer, we have it covered so you don’t have to, read on to find out how…

how to achieve a no make up look

1. Stick To A Skincare Routine

The first thing to do to achieve a “no make-up” look is to keep a regular skincare routine.

Applying a face mist before anything else can give you smooth and fresh skin which creates a good base to apply everything else.

Use products infused with vitamins. Your skin can really benefit from them such as brightening your skin, combating acne and protecting your skin.

One thing you definitely need to use in Summer is antioxidants. They protect your skin from environmental damage including UV radiation from being exposed to the sun.

Exfoliation is your friend! At least once or twice a week use a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and dirt from your pores.

It also helps to improve blood circulation.

Finally, a step not to skip is using toners and moisturisers to keep your skin hydrated in this hot weather.

You can take a browse through Boots or Superdrug to find the best products for you.

2. Start At The Base

Use a primer to prime your skin ready for the first layer of make-up, this is an important step no matter if you are going for a full make-up look or no make-up look.

As the goal is a more natural look, a foundation can be quite heavy.

So swap your foundation for something lighter, like a skin tint or tinted moisturiser.

Or get a “no make-up” foundation that is sheer to light coverage to keep it natural and glowy!

In the summer keep the look dewy for a refreshing look during the heatwave.

3. Conceal & Correct

Once the base is done, your next move is to conceal and correct any blemishes.

You don’t need to use a lot but just enough to cover anything you want to be covered.

Make sure the concealer matches perfectly to your skin to keep the look natural.

Firstly apply the concealer to blemishes with a small flat brush, then dab a small amount under your eyes.

Finally use your finger or a beauty blender to blend it in and set with some setting powder.

4. Keep Your Lips Neutral

Now that the base is done and blemishes are covered, it is time to move on to adding the small details. This includes your lips.

For a no make-up look you want to keep the lips as neutral as possible.

Ideally you want to apply a lipstick that is a shade as close as possible to your natural lip colour so they are the same, just “improved”.

To keep the look fresh and dewy, add some lip balm over the top for a perfect summer look.

Alternatively instead of a lipstick, you could apply some tinted lip balm or use a natural lipstick crayon.

Plus, using a clear lip gloss over the top is another way to add a bit of sheen to your lips.

5. Add A Little Colour

Whilst this is supposed to be a natural look you probably won’t want to look too pale so, adding a little colour can help improve complexion.

To do this, add a little bit of blush to your cheeks. Not a lot! Just the littlest touch to keep it a natural flush.

If you want a sun-kissed no make-up look, also add a little bit to your nose as well.

A cream blush is the better option for a natural look as it is lighter which is good for a bit of subtlety.

It is perfect for hot days or activities where you might get a little sweaty.

6. Tidy Up Those Brows

Another step to achieving the “no make-up” look is grooming and defining your eyebrows.

Whilst big bold eyebrows are not what we are going for, a little touch up goes a long way.

For a soft natural finish, brush your brows upwards and if you need to enhance them, use a brow pencil to add to any sparse areas and add definition.

To keep your brows in place, set them with some brow gel. A clear brow gel would be best but otherwise one that matches your brow colour would also work.

A helpful trick from TikTok is to use some soap to keep your eyebrows in place and looking full and fluffy!

There you have it, some naturally fluffy but defined brows to make your “no make-up” look more put together.

7. Make Those Eyelashes Pop

With a natural look you don’t need to do much with the eyes, especially where eyeshadow is concerned.

It is best to leave eyelids bare or you can apply a pink or cream shadow and blend in with your fingers depending on how you feel at the time.

Also skip on the eyeliner, it is not needed when you are aiming for a no make-up look.

But what you can do is apply a few layers of mascara for a little definition and use eyelash curlers to curl your lashes to open your eyes up to look more fresh and awake.

If you want to, a good trick to achieve a “no make-up” look is to add some bronzer to your eyelids, this gives the eye area a little bit of warmth!

8. Stay Glowing

To complete your no-make up look, add a little highlighter to the top of your cheekbones for that glowing look everyone needs in Summer.

Grab your favourite cream highlighter and apply!

A cream highlighter is recommended as it blends seamlessly and looks more natural than powdered highlighters.
