It’s no doubt that there’s a huge amount of great bars in a buzzing city like Newcastle! Known as ‘The Toon’ to locals, the bright lights of the city attract outsiders who want a taste of Geordie hospitality, as well as tons of students ready for a big night out with their mates. We’ve compiled a list of the 8 best bars to visit in Newcastle, follow our guide and you’ll be guaranteed an unforgettable night with your university pals.

1. Digital

Fancy some cheap drinks with plenty of room to boogie? Digital on Times Square, Scotswood Road is the place to be for your big session!

Founded by Aaron Mellor, this booming club opened in 2005 and has since been christened “The Fabric of the North”.

Digital have received a whole bunch of awards including UK Best Club SoundSystem (BEDA Awards), Club Of The Year North (Mixmag), and many more.

Monday nights are always buzzing at this club, with £1 drinks on offer, you’re guaranteed plenty of booze to fuel all the dancing!

The best part? It only costs you 80p to enter the club before midnight, saving you plenty of cash for drinks and the greasy takeaway on the way home.

2. Soho Rooms

This is a great place to be if you’ve already had a few drinks prior, located on Mosley Street, think sticky floors and cheap drinks.

Open Monday-Friday until 3am, they have some great deals for students including double up for just £1, and if you buy two glasses of wine you get the bottle free, win!

Filled with loud, cheesy chart music, there are four floors with a mixture of house, R’n’B and chart music, perfect for everyone.

In terms of drinks prices, it’s £6.50 for two blueberry and vodka trebles and a Jagerbomb, and the glass sizes are very generous.

3. Florita’s

Calling all cocktail lovers! Florita’s bar on Collingwood Street have a fabulous cocktail menu from champagne cocktails to pitchers.

The best part about this venue is the fact that happy hour gets you 2-4-1 on all drinks on a Sunday to Friday 5pm-8pm…what’s not to love?

For cocktails, we’d have to recommend the Miami Sling for £6.95, which contains gin, raspberry liqueur, raspberry puree, fresh raspberries, cranberry juice, and a squeeze of fresh lime.

4.      Bijoux

Renowned as the ‘busiest bar in Newcastle’ and well known for its pre-drink bar of choice for the Geordie Shore cast, it’s no wonder this bar is super popular.

The bar is located on Mosley Street which is a fab location for venues famed for attracting celebrities.But what’s so special about Bijoux?

Firstly, you can get three trebles for £6, that’s enough to convince you!

Secondly, the range of drinks is fantastic, from cocktails to premium spirits, attracting the likes of Ellie Goulding.

Although small, this club has a booming reputation with an international quality DJ line-up on offer for you to enjoy.

This venue is also free entry, but can get very busy, so make sure you get there fairly early!

5.      Flares

This bar has got some serious retro vibes, a perfect opportunity to bust some shapes on the dance floor! Whether you fancy some cocktails or a nice glass of Pinot, this bar caters to everyone’s taste.

If you like cheesetastic music, you’ll love Flares, every Saturday DJ Mr Wayne Allen pumps out the classic tunes all night long, from 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

Special deals include the legendary “Hank Marvin”, where you get free pizza slices every Monday.

Popping in on Tuesday? Prepare for some free popcorn! The most popular night though is “Price Crunch Wednesday” where shots are £2.50 each (or 4 for £8), and Sourz are £1.50 each (or 4 for £5).

6. Spy Bar & Lounge

This bar is a little bit more relaxed, but don’t let that put you off! Home to big screens, American style burgers, and premium drinks, Spy Bar & Lounge have got it all.

They have a total of 9 beers on tap, as well as a great range of cocktails and wines too.

The bar is open until 11pm every night, and have an amazing “Push the Button” game which could win you a free round or 2-4-1.

They also have some fabulous food deals, including 50% off burgers and pizzas every single Tuesday, and “student Thursday’s” where you can get 30% off all food and drink.

Located on Osbourne Road in the popular student area of Jesmond, you’re not going to want to miss out on these cracking deals!

7. Bar Blanc

Another bar in the oldest and finest suburb of Jesmond in Newcastle, is Bar Blanc, just minutes away from the city centre.

This bar is the best place to kickstart your night out with your mates, they’ve got some amazing deals including two for one on cocktails on a Thursday.

On £2 Tuesday, you’re promised “more drinks than anywhere else for £2”, we like the sound of that!

Open until 11pm weekly, this is a great place to go for your pre drinks and a nice hearty meal to fill you up before the night begins.

Need a strong coffee to function after a heavy night? Bar Blanc also have “Noir Coffee”, the perfect place to relax with barista made coffees.

8. Crown Posada

In need of some chilled vibes? This snug Victorian real ale pub is famous for a memorable night out on the Toon.

It’s the second oldest pub in the city, in a stunning grade two listed building with stained glass windows and a warm, lively atmosphere.

Crown Posada is only a two-minute walk from the buzzing Grey Street and has a variety of tasty cask ales on offer.

On weekdays they’re open until 11pm, but on Friday and Saturday it’s 12am, giving you that extra hour to have a boogie!
